Hej Hej! Retro is in: Sweden World Cup ’10 Qualifier Jersey

Sweden goes Retro

Sweden goes Retro

Like France, Sweden has revealed a new jersey for World Cup 2010 qualifying.  Shirt manufactuer Umbro opted for a retro style jersey.  It pays tribute to the 1958 Swedish team, which hosted the World Cup & finished as runner ups.

The Umbro equation was simple:  a template with all the modern technology using inspiration from what is undoubtedly the most famous shirt of the Swedish team; which amounts to a simple, spectacular jersey.  The crest of the SvFF is located in the rear, below the neck, leaving the front adorned with the national flag.  Throughout the jersey there is a a watermark.

The Swedes, when it comes to fashion, have once again done it right.

France officially reveals new jersey

Domenach & Henry present the new France Jersey

Domenach & Henry present the new France Jersey

FFF offically presented the new France jersey today.  It looks somewhat retro, and I’m not sure if I’m a fan of the light blue.  Interestingly, while researching this update, it was discovered that once the Adidas contract runs out with the FFF (2010), Nike will become the officialy provider of the France jersey.  Somehow I just can’t picture the jersey without the three stripes.

IWC Schaffhausen unviel beautiful Zidane watch

IWC Schaffhausen, a high end swiss watch maker announced Zinedine Zidane, in my opinion the greatest player ever, as its newest ambassador.  They have dedicated a special model to him, the Igenieur Automatic Edition Zinedine Zidane.  There will be only 1,000 availalbe globally.

The watch is described below:

The most important element in this case is the colour coding. Only a watch in the French national colours, which are reproduced both on the dial and in the blue crocodile leather strap with its red decorative stitching, is appropriate for a footballer who played for France 108 times over a period of twelve years.

One distinctive feature characterizes the glittering blue dial with its redand- white minute graduations: the Arabic numeral “10” in a brilliant shade of red stands out against the eleven appliquéd, metallically lustrous hour indices. Regarded as a magical number by footballers, the squad number “10” on the back of the strip always characterizes the striker, the brains of a team – the role played by Zinédine Zidane for many years in the “Équipe Tricolore”.

The back engraving makes the Ingenieur Automatic Edition Zinédine Zidane an absolute must for fans of this exceptional footballer. Situated at the centre of the solid stainless steel back are the engraved portrait and the autograph of the sportsman, framed by the inscription “Zinédine Zidane – World Champion 1998” and the model esignation “Ingenieur”. The back also carries the serial number of the limited edition of 1,000 watches.

Liverpool 3rd jersey revealed

Pretty ugly

Pretty ugly

The new 08/09 third jersey was revealed today.   The third jersey is traditionally worn when the team travels outside their home countries.  Personally I think they should shed the tourquoise colours.

Goodbye ABM-AMBRO. The new Ajax Jersey revealed.

New sponsers, new jersey.

For the first time in 18 years, the sponsors logo is featured horizonally.

The Club:  Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax.  Also known as AFC Ajax is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, playing in the top Dutch league, the Eredivisie.

The new home jeresys were revealed today.  Most of you would easily recognize an AJAX jersey by their vertically aligned logo of sponsor ABM-AMRO, a mainstay of the Ajax jersey for the last 18 years.  Interstingly, for the first time in 18 years, the club sponsor has changed, and now the logo is featured horizonatally.  The Ajax logo is placed on the heart. A white badge is used with the Ajax logo, to create a style of the Ajax shirts of yesteryear. This classical style was also used in the design of the shirt, with a round collar and cut in at the waist.

The chairman of the club went on to say “We are delighted with this new partner. We owe a great deal to ABN AMRO, who have supported us loyally. But the natural moment had come for a change. AEGON fits with Ajax. We have an A-brand in AEGON and AEGON has an A-brand in Ajax. I hope that we can say in many years that it was a happy marriage.”

Alex Wynaendts, chairman of the board of AEGON, was also a happy man. ,,Ajax is a well-known, good and positive name. The latter is very important. I travel all over the world and Ajax always draws a smile from people. That’s why we are also proud to be connected to Ajax. We are active in China and 200 million Chinese watch European football on television. They know Ajax. For us that is an opportunity to enhance our name recognition and together with Ajax we want to grow abroad. Not only in Asia, but also in south-east Europe and South America. We are looking ahead to the future with much pleasure.”

AC Milan 08/09 Jerseys, ‘Dinho to wear #80

The new first choice shirt has 5 red bands and 4 black ones in the front, wider compared to last season, which also continue on the thighs; the sleeves are black with 3 red stripes. On the back there is the writing ROSSONERI, in black, on a red background.

Dinho will have the Rossonero shirt number 80, like his birth year.

Galliani (club vice president) explained:

‘In 23 years we have never asked a player to give up his number to another player. If the number 10 would have been free it would have been different.

The number 10 is currently occupied by none other than Clarence Seedorf, a legend in his own right.

Adidas then made it known that more than 11,000 shirts with Ronaldinho’s name were pre-ordered.
